The Language Center’s general goal is help those who are interested in improving overall language proficiency. Our ESL Program is divided into two disciplines: Comprehension (Reading/Listening) and Expression (Writing/Speaking). There are four levels of study in each discipline, including Low Beginner, High Beginner, Low Intermediate, and High Intermediate levels.

The Language Center supports the teaching and learning of languages throughout the University. It does so flexibly in accordance with the needs of its users; it uses IT to underpin its operations and its activities are informed by relevant research in second language acquisition and educational technology.

The Advising Team is here to support you on a one-to-one basis, exploring resources and opportunities to structure a path towards your personal language learning goals. We are most interested in helping you identify the strengths and learning preferences that will motivate your language study.

The Language Center provides a range of courses in fifteen languages, including English, for students and staff of the University; in addition to offering teaching directly to specific Faculties or Departments.

Applying to the Language Center

  1. Bring a picture ID and Social Security card to register.
  2. Complete the Language Center application.
  3. Complete the top part of the Test Appointment Form.
  4. Take the placement exam to determine your level.
  5. Register at the Language Center in F Building, Room 309. Tuition payment is due at time of registration. A payment plan is available for eligible students–60% of the tuition, plus a $25 fee to be paid when registering. The balance must be paid in total by the end of the 5th week of classes. Financial Aid is NOT available for the Institute.

Spread over three levels, the premises feature 20 spacious, bright and air-conditioned classrooms fully equipped with audiovisual resources, lounge areas for relaxing between classes, a study center, and a student lounge area.
